Alex Barker has been a private markets investor for over 20 years, with experience in private equity fund investing, portfolio construction, fundraising and manager selection across global private equity markets. He spent 15 years at HarbourVest Partners, one of the world’s leading private markets investment firms, where he was responsible for leading primary fund investments in Europe. During his time at HarbourVest, Alex focused on evaluating and managing primary private equity fund investments, working with general partners across Europe and other international markets. His role involved conducting due diligence on investment opportunities, helping institutional clients gain exposure to private equity strategies through diversified investment programs, and raising capital from institutional clients. In addition to his investment responsibilities, Alex has also been involved with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and impact investing initiatives within the private markets industry.

Prior to HarbourVest, Alex worked for Gartmore Private Equity, a leading private equity solutions provider, as part of the investment team covering European and Asian markets and responsible for leading co-investments and primary fund investments. Before entering the private equity industry, Alex worked in equity research at Credit Suisse First Boston.
