David Lashbrook

David Lashbrook, CA (SA), CFA, is a seasoned investment professional with a career spanning over two decades in asset management, private equity, and real estate.

He has been Director and Head of Africa Real Estate at Momentum Global Investment Management, where he launched MAREF, an institutional real estate development fund. MAREF achieved a $169 million first close without DFI support, a landmark accomplishment for Africa, and were later supported by a $30 million commitment from CDC (now BII) for a final close of $205 million. Under his leadership, the fund secured green certifications for its portfolio, drove investment origination, and executed strategic asset management and exits. His contributions have earned multiple accolades, including Landlord of the Year and Best Green Building in Africa.

Previously, David was Vice President at Maples in the Cayman Islands, where he managed a portfolio of hedge funds, private equity vehicles, and unit trust structures. He worked extensively on fund structuring, governance, and business development. Earlier, at Fortis, he oversaw fund accounting for major macro and fixed-income funds, earning recognition as the firm’s top Account Manager. He began his career at Ernst & Young, where he trained as a Chartered Accountant, and gained further experience as a management accountant in investment banking and asset management.

David is a CFA charter-holder and a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) with a BCom Honours in Accounts from the University of Natal. Recognised for his expertise and leadership, he has shaped sustainable development projects across Africa and contributed significantly to wealth creation in emerging markets. A British citizen with roots in Zimbabwe, David combines global insight with a commitment to excellence in the investment industry.
